I don’t know where to begin. For a few days, I guess I’ve had writer’s block, which has not been great, but I’m warming up to a new idea: word prompts.

Well, I mean, it’s new for me, anyway. A lot of bloggers who I admire have done it, and I think it’s a good idea, and a good way to fight writer’s block. Become the hunter, as opposed to the hunted, and all that. So I’ll be picking a random word and using it as a prompt to write a flash fiction piece. I am going to warn you, it’s probably not going to be good – I’m not very practiced. Also, anything that seems impossible is because it’s in an alternate universe 😉 Well, here goes…

When I was young, I thought I was in for a normal life. I was just an ordinary girl, going to school, hoping to get a good job in the future, marry, have kids… all that ordinary stuff. What I didn’t count on was where I am now, or why.
The day I was thirty-one, a massive nuclear war broke out. The people had no warning at all, and it was absolute chaos. It was basically the apocalypse, and everyone was taking their family to go and live in the forests, in the wild, where it was safer.
The day after it was declared, spaceships started flying in the sky all around the world. We thought we were under attack, and everyone was terrified. That was until the spaceships landed, and  things in copper suits that looked like robots came out. They spoke in a strange language, but it was clear to us that they came in peace. They took every human on earth (except the ones who started the war) on-board, and handed out copper suits, like the ones they were wearing.
We were all put into groups of twenty and distributed across the solar system’s planets. Me and my family were put on Pluto, with many other families, and every planet was full of people, except earth.
Earth turned grey soon after we left, and was left uninhabitable. We soon learned the language the aliens spoke, and they told us that this scenario had happened before, on their planet, which had been in the solar system before the first humans were born. But there was a nuclear war on there as well, and they evacuated to the other planets. When they saw what was happening with us, they had to save us. But what I was most unprepared for was this:
Now we are all immortal.
