I hate eating disorders. I really do. I hate the way they destroy people’s lives, I hate everything about them. I hate that our society is basically making eating disorders okay. They’re not okay. They just aren’t. If you have one, I know you won’t listen to me, but I’m going to say it anyway. Get help. Please don’t do this to yourself anymore. It’s nothing to be ashamed of, it’s not your fault, and you’re not okay.

I am in no way promoting eating disorders with this poem, just trying to get into the mind of someone who has an eating disorder. I hope you enjoy ❤

Mirror, mirror, on the wall

Is it true that I am the ugliest one of all?

I know what they say

But what do they know anyway?

If this feeling is so strong

How could it really be wrong?

I must be right

In my eyes I see no light

On my body I just see fat

And everybody asks, why is that?

Well I have to tell you

That’s because it is true

You don’t have to look so sad

Why is starving so bad?

If it makes me thinner

It’s fine to skip dinner

It’s that voice inside

Pushing my sense aside

That voice I cannot disobey

I mustn’t let them see me this way

So against the pain I will fight

It will make me look far better, am I right?

  1. My personal thoughts would be that we should love and accept ourselves for who we are, but not resign ourselves to unhealthy behaviors stemmed from a perception others have projected on us or which we projected on ourselves as a result of expectations outside of our control. We should own our space, own our realm. That means both loving it and taking care of it.
