Song #4 of 10

Pompeii, By Bastille

I was left to my own devices
Many days fell away with nothing to show

And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Grey clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above

But if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like
You’ve been here before?

But if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like
You’ve been here before?

Nothing changed at all
Nothing changed at all

We were caught up and lost in all of our vices
In your pose as the dust settled around us

And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Grey clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above

But if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like
You’ve been here before?

Nothing changed at all
Nothing changed at all

Oh where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins?
Oh where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins?

But if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like
You’ve been here before?

Nothing changed at all
Nothing changed at all

This is a beautiful song, with a startling message and an interesting metaphor. This song hints that perhaps, with all our vices and sins, we might bring the world down like that volcano brought down Pompeii. It is a wonderful song and I strongly suggest you give it a listen!

However, if you don’t like Bastille’s style, you can give Jasmine Thompson’s cover a listen instead. It tones down the song and really gives the lyrics more clarity. I personally love both versions equally!

I apologise for the missed post. I’m trying to cut down on my internet use, so we’re back to every other day posting now 🙂

Thank you guys! ❤
