The Beauty Of Existing

The Beauty Of Existing

The waves crash down

They remind me of someone

Withdrawing, then rushing to meet me

My pen brushes the paper

A line here, a flourish there

The strange shapes I form on the page

Incomprehensible to a newborn

Meaningless markings made special

Simply through understanding

I return to the moment

The sand escapes my grasp

It reminds me of someone I loved

Here one second, then gone

The wind tugs playfully on my hair

It reminds me of happiness

Never here to stay

Ephemeral

My heart beats, my lungs inflate

Looking around in wonder

The sky has not one cloud

In a trance, I wade into the water

The cold sends messages to my skin

Gooseflesh appears, every hair rising

It reminds me of someone’s laugh

I wade in deeper, dive under

Surfacing with a splash

Lungs contracting

Heart beating

So alive

I fall back, and the water holds me so gently

Its embrace so tender

I close my eyes; I dissolve

I am one with the earth

Succumbing to complete peace:

Whole.
