I Will Not Succumb

I Will Not Succumb

I must back away
Lock the door behind me and run
Far away
From the place I dread
But always return to
In that room
A world of fantasy
A pit of greed
Of unattainable dreams
I will not drown in a sea of greed
Will not drink the poisonous grief
Over what could have been
And what will never be
If I do not run
I will be overcome
Swallowed by a death
From wanting what I will never have
But I am wiser now
I escaped by the skin of my teeth
And I will never
Ever
Make that mistake
Again.
