In the darkness that never speaks
The doubt starts to creep
Like a bullet sinking in
Tearing my heart to shreds
Sharpening its claws silently
Fear smiles at me
So charismatic, she holds out her hand
“Come with me and you’ll be safe,”
She whispers in my hair
Her voice soft and kind
Sadness traces my face with his fingers
His kiss is like a drug
Truth shows me two pictures
Of where they will both lead me
Fear led me to my deathbed
Unfulfilled, and yet
Simultaneously filled up with regret
Sadness has a simple picture
A grave showing tomorrow’s date
So I walk with Truth
She tells me stories
But most importantly, she tells me
“You can do anything you put your mind to.”
And just like that
I win.
