Point Of No Return

Point Of No Return

Lying in silence
Darkness creeping in
Breathing shallow, steady
Watching the blankets rise and fall
Unblinking
Because if you close your eyes
It takes all your energy to open them again
Your mind doesn’t wander
It curls up beside you
Changed from your worst enemy
Into your only friend
Lonely and cold
You lie there
Blank
Because you’ve done it again
Passed the point of no return
Until there’s nothing left
No sadness
No happiness
Almost nothing
Except loneliness
You could be the last person on earth
And it would feel
Exactly
The same.
