It’s taken me a while to get here

I’ve cried, raged and grieved

But finally I’m standing tall

On the shores of acceptance

The waves are deafening, but my thoughts are louder

Clarity greets me

We walk away from the smoke

That rises above the bridges I’ve burned

Stepping over the wreckage

Of the walls that I built

Then tore down

Picking up the chest of memories

And floating it out to sea

Soon the songs we sang won’t make me cry

You’ll leave my fevered dreams

I won’t think of you for months at a time

And my fragile, weeping heart

Will turn her tear soaked petals up to the sun

And she’ll bloom again

Open to love once more

The doubt you caused will cease

The wounds you made will heal

And the scars that remain I’ll wear with pride

Because I’ll be able to say

“Someone broke my heart,

but my spirit refused to die.”

That day isn’t quite here

But I feel it coming closer

Because I’ve shrugged off the weight

Which rested on my shoulders

I’m free from your crap

And I won’t ever look back

I’m free, free, free

Happiness is welcome in my house again

Euphoria is holding my hand

So long,

And don’t forget to have a nice life.
