Foolish Martyr

Foolish Martyr

Who are you?

Hiding behind that veneer

On the other side of those glassy eyes

I want the truth, but you won’t even give me lies

You give me nothing

Insist on locking yourself away

Has anyone ever known you?

Have you been happy a day in your life?

Such a waste, what a waste

But I won’t repeat your mistakes

You’re shut off

And how much would it hurt

To talk to me;

Just once in a while!

I’m not that weak

I wouldn’t crumple

What is it you think I’d do?

Well I assure you

You don’t know me as well as you think

If at all

And maybe I’d try harder

If you believed in me a bit more

But you don’t, and I feel it

As surely as the wind on my skin

So suffer alone, my foolish martyr

And when you do decide

I’m worth your while,

You know where I’ll be.
