The Faker

The Faker

I want you to take a moment

To think about what I gave up

A sacrifice not to be underestimated

Imagine a world

Where you could be anything

And anyone

Well, guess what?!

It exists, and you can

Welcome to social media

My younger self,

She was enchanted

With this notion

And she painted a picture

So pretty

That butter wouldn’t melt

On the canvas

Suffice to say

It didn’t end well

The kraken seized her in its tentacles

Pulling her down into the inky depths

So she gave everything up

The years went by

And now you have me

A product of her mistakes

And I could spin a wicked tale

Be that tall, elegant enigma

With the green eyes and fiery curls

An answer for everything

A story worth spreading worldwide

Without a blemish or a scar

Except that burn on her arm

But instead, you have me

A being made from mistakes

And on this blog, I bare my soul

Flashing my scars for all to see

Letting my wounded heart grow

Pouring my secrets onto the ground

Imperfection is my middle name

And I no longer play games

Honesty is a treasure I choose to dispense

Trust me, I can tell a lie as easily as breathing

But all you don’t have

Is my face and name

So take a second

To see all I’ve lost

And don’t take it lightly.

  1. In my opinion, the poem works on the level of making it easy to grasp that you suffered quite a bit in the past and might still be suffering just as much as you once were, which is quite an accomplishment.
Still, the poem raises the question, “What have you lost?” I think it only suggests loss, but doesn’t reveal enough for me to understand what it is you have lost — beyond vague generalities.
    Quite a good poem, really.

  2. The loss of an identity , that was invested into a dream and into someone … then the void afterwards ,…. trying to grasp at straws of reality that you do not quite understand ….the emptiness ….. impenetrable by the minds of those who have never had their core cracked and fractured …………..
    I like your poem
