I Dreamed A Nightmare

I Dreamed A Nightmare

I had a dream
She and him were having problems
She was saying something about him Asking something sarcastic
And I screamed
I remember how it came out, a formless cry
Stabbing my ears and those of others
Something repressed that could wait no longer
And had to come out
She ran away
So did the dog
And my hand was crushed against my lips
Trying to take back what I’d done
I remember thinking how I’d never be able to explain
The way it just came out
Pulled me forwards with its force
Leaving me as shocked as everyone else
Like all the screams I wanted to scream
Were finally set free
In one deafening cry
The most heartbreaking thing
I’d ever heard in my life
I was so terrified
Because I’ve never lost control like that
Not ever
And when I woke up I didn’t remember
But now
I hope I never will.
