Memory Of Skin

“You led me to the well but wouldn’t let me drink
I swallowed my pride and never even got the taste
But time comes around and I’m not so naive
I finally lost touch cause you’re so out of reach”

~ Ashley, By Green Day

Memory Of Skin

Late at night, feeling weak

Your soul has lingered in the air

For a few days now

Everywhere I go, it’s there

And all I can think about

Is the side I never showed you

The part that cries for you

Aches for you

The part that could never hate you

Would climb mountains for you

And whenever I close my eyes

That longing is there

Back again, pretending it left

All the things I wanted

Your lips on mine

Soft whispers in my hair

Your fingers on my cheek

Wandering hands

A song written for me

All these things I’ll never have from you

I mourn the loss as if it’s new

And that sickening jealousy fills me up

Because even though I love him,

Like a brother

While I truly do

He’s the one you hold in those arms

And I’ve never wanted anything

As much as I want you

It’s been ten months

But the memory of your skin

Still leaves me weak at the knees

I guess I need to get over that

Because he’s the one that stays the night

Who lays claim to everything you are

You’re taken, gone

I’ve got a broken heart

And I have to let you go

If I’m going to heal

But I just
