The Storm

The Storm

The streetlights shine
Reaching through the drops
That adorn the thin glass
Of my window
Until there’s a dull bang
And the light goes out
The wind intensifies
The lightning grows fervent
Thunder its eager sibling
Toddling along behind
But soon they’ll become closer
I wait
The fear will come
But for now I’m suspended
Floating in a bubble of peace
That fights the chaos outside
The storm;
My nemesis, earth’s greatest ally
I quake with fear
While the earth shakes with joy
But at least I know
That when my fearful patience is over
After the storm has gone on its merry way
I’ll wake to a new day
A fresh blue sky
A sun that smiles down
Upon our green newcomers
That the rain teased out of the unsuspecting ground
This new life will wave to me,
And I shall wave back.
