My Exceptional Exception

My Exceptional Exception

Occasionally, a person will catch my eye
Quite often they’re not my type
But these people have something
A special kind of magic
A beauty I can’t explain
Once you see one beautiful thing
It’s like a row of dominos
Until everything about them shines
Today was one such day
Her hair was the first thing I saw
Short, light blonde, and messy
Combed over to one side
Her little daughter had it too
Though hers was long and wavy
I watched her from behind the glass
Slowly, I noticed more
The wide eyes
The sharp jaw
She was not my type, at all
But there’s a few exceptions to every rule
Today, she was my beautiful exception
And I’m very glad that I had the pleasure
Of meeting her eyes.
