A Letter From Across The Ocean

A Letter From Across The Ocean

As I lean back and close my eyes

As the wind filters through my hair

As the sun kisses my winter-pale skin

A memory comes to me

Colourful and clear

In the shade of the stone porch

My guitar in your arms

Scribbling down lyrics

Your beautiful voice joined the breeze

On its slow journey, across the land

I listened as you sang the pretty lines

It was such a beatific song

Now the distance between us is huge

Our bond is stretched over an ocean

And no matter how far I swim, I won’t get to you

But we shall meet again soon

So for now I’ll hold the memories of you in my arms

I’ll keep them in a box by the brightest stars

In the light of the moon and the sun

And I’ll take them out when I feel sad

I’ll feel your hands, plaiting my hair

Your arms around me, holding me safe

The sound of your laughter, your voice

Your hand holding mine as we braved the huge, cold waves

Floating in the water, our comfortable silences

And most of all, just you

Being that kind, big-hearted, amazing, beautiful, wonderful person you are

My best friend, my sister, my partner in mischievous crime

I love you so much

Never forget that you’re the best.
